An outbreak of Norovirus diseases has been connected to oysters from Texas, prompting an investigation by the Texas Department of State Health Services and other public health agencies.
CDC Warns Against Norovirus Outbreak
Please dispose of these oysters or return them to the store from whence you purchased them. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises disinfecting any surfaces and storage containers that may have come into touch with the virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that Norovirus is the primary cause of foodborne illness in the United States. Oysters subject to the recall were sent to restaurants and stores in at least eight states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. They might have arrived in still other countries. You shouldn’t assume that because you aren’t in one of these states, you can shuck it and skip the inspection of your oysters.

What The CDC Discovered?
Raw Texas oysters are being blamed by authorities for this outbreak. Consequently, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has mandated the recall of all oysters harvested in the TX 1 area in southeast Galveston Bay between November 17, 2022, and December 7, 2022.
On December 8th, harvesting was halted in the TX 1 area by the Texas DSHS. Currently, at least 211 people have become unwell due to the norovirus outbreak. As far as we can tell, seafood consumption is to blame.
Officials believe that raw Texas oysters are to blame for this outbreak. Because of this, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has mandated the recall of all oysters harvested in the TX 1 area in southeast Galveston Bay between November 17, 2022, and December 7, 2022.
