D-snap Help for People and Families in Florida Who Were Hurt by Hurricane Ian Receives Approval!

FLORIDA — The Florida Department of Children and Families says that the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP), which helps people and families get food after Hurricane Ian, has been approved for the state (DCF).

DCF works with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to run the D-SNAP program. DCF said it is for people who don’t get food aid through the regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

DCF says that starting Monday, D-SNAP will be put into place by county and in stages. All applicants must pre-register, which is open from Monday at 1 a.m. to Sunday at 11 p.m. for the counties listed in each phase.

In the first phase, people can sign up by phone. In the coming weeks, DCF will hold in-person D-SNAP events for people who can’t sign up by phone.

DCF says that eligible people who participate in the D-SNAP phone event will get an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card in the mail that they can use to buy food at authorized USDA food retailers.
