Pierce Brosnan will join the DC Cinematic Universe this fall when he plays Doctor Fate in the movie Black Adam. Back in 1989, he almost played Batman for director Tim Burton. James Bond was almost Batman, but a sarcastic comment ruined his chances.
Brosnan said on NBC’s The Tonight Show that he tried out for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the famous movie but didn’t get it because he “said something stupid” to director Tim Burton, according to ComicBook.com.
For a long time, comic book fans have talked about how important it is for Batman to wear underwear or not. Brosnan spoke with Jimmy Fallon about his audition for Burton while promoting the Dwayne Johnson movie. He said that he told Burton, “I can’t understand why any man would wear his underpants outside of his pants.”
However, Burton probably thought that wasn’t the best attitude for an actor who has to play Batman. We all know that Michael Keaton got the part in the end, and Pierce Brosnan had to wait until 1995’s “Goldeneye” to get his big break as James Bond.
Tim Burton would eventually hire Pierce Brosnan for his all-star science fiction comedy Mars Attacks!
During an interview on The Tonight Show, Pierce Brosnan talked about how hard it was to play Doctor Fate. He said it wasn’t easy to wear an unflattering motion-capture suit and a helmet that didn’t let him see anything. He did say, though, that he could relate to the character.
He said, “I think Doctor Fate and I were meant to meet on the same page.” He also noted that star Dwayne Johnson was “a great guy,” but he admitted that he knew Johnson better on the press tour than on the set, where it was hard to talk to him personally.
Aldis Hodge plays Carter Hall/Hawkman, Viola Davis plays Amanda Waller, Sarah Shahi plays Adrianna, Odelia Halevi plays Shirota, and Noah Centineo plays Al Rothstein/Atom Smasher. Quintessa Swindell plays Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone.
It has also been said that Henry Cavill will make a cameo as Superman, but this has not been confirmed. Johnson has hinted at the idea, but he has only just confirmed that Black Adam and Superman will fight one day. He won’t say if it will happen in Black Adam, though.

Pierce Brosnan has done almost every other kind of movie there is to do, but he hasn’t done any superhero movies yet. After becoming famous on the NBC show Remington Steele, he did well in comedies (like 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire with Robin Williams), romances (like 1994’s Love Affair), science fiction (The Lawnmower Man), fantasy (The Percy Jackson films), and animated films (The Quest for Camelot, Riverdance).
If Marvel fans wonder if Pierce Brosnan will ever work for Disney, Giant Freaking Robot said he is in talks to join the MCU as a villain, but no other details are yet known.
Pierce Brosnan seems to be as busy as ever, with at least six movie projects. One of them, Mamma Mia 3, is still in the planning stages, but it will give him another chance to show off his impressive singing skills. He has also finished working on the thriller Fast Charlie, which stars Morena Baccarin, best known for her role in the Deadpool movies.
Giant Freakin’ Robot recently said that Brosnan had been secretly cast in a live-action Star Wars show, and they thought that he might be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The movie Black Adam comes out on October 21.
