FCT-IRS Urges Taxpayers Not to Modify Tax Papers

Mr Haruna Abdullahi, the acting Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, has urged taxpayers not to engage tax advisors to doctor tax records and conceal documents. He said that taxpayers should do this on their own.

Abdullahi made the suggestion while he was being interviewed on the flagship show of the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

He issued a stern warning that the government will pursue legal action against any taxpayer who was proven to have conspired with unethical tax experts.

Any taxpayer who, in his opinion, files their tax returns based on false or misleading information will be subject to the full force of the law, as stated by him.

He did say that consultants and tax practitioners have been of immense help in offering guidance and advice on tax concerns, but he also said that some of them were falling short of expectations in this regard.

“The service acknowledges that some of these things do in fact occur due to the inherent nature of human beings.

Regarding unethical practices, therefore, we are contacting professional groups such as the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

We work with them because the majority of the consultants in the industry are members of these groups.

“However, the individual is solely responsible for the concerns about their own taxation.

“If you let someone mislead you as a taxpayer when you have avenues to educate yourself on what to do, the tax man will come after you,” he warned. “You have avenues to educate yourself on what to do.”

Abdullahi stated that the service had procedures in place to detect such unscrupulous tactics, and he also stated that there was no hiding place for questionable individuals.

These statements were made in response to a question about whether or not the service had a place to hide questionable individuals. These declarations were made in response to an inquiry about whether or not the service possessed a location to conceal persons whose loyalty may be in question.

The head of the Internal Revenue Service in the Financial Capital Territory (FCT-IRS) stated that the agency was typically equipped with additional material to indicate that a taxpayer was concealing some details and that this was the case in the vast majority of cases.

He also stated that this was the case in the vast majority of cases. In addition to that, he added that this was the case in the vast majority of instances.

While Abdullahi recommended individuals seek the right assistance when submitting tax returns and dealing with other tax matters, he also cautioned them that ignorance of the law was not a legitimate explanation.

He said this while also advising people to get proper guidance when filing tax returns. This was in addition to the fact that he counselled individuals to look for the appropriate direction.

The Internal Revenue Service of the Federal Capital Territory was reportedly constituted in compliance with the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service Act of 2015, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
