Instacart Now Takes Snap EBT Payments in 10 States

Americans who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and receive benefits now have a lot more options available to them when it comes to making online grocery purchases through Instacart.

The announcement that SNAP electronic benefits transfer card payments can now be used to purchase groceries on the platform’s app in ten additional states was made on Monday.

According to a report by TechCrunch, the ten states are as follows: Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

This brings the total number of states and the District of Columbia up to 49. The only state besides Alaska that does not accept EBT payments for Instacart is Alaska.

According to Supermarket News, as a result of the expansion, Instacart is now able to reach nearly 30 million SNAP beneficiaries, accept SNAP EBT payments at more than 60 retailers, and operate more than 8,000 stores.

Sarah Mastrorocco, vice president of access to food and nutrition at Instacart, stated in a statement that the company is “proud to bring this critical service to people in 10 additional states in partnership with grocers that people know, love, and trust.”

“We’ve long advocated expanding online EBT SNAP acceptance,” Mastrorocco said. “Our partners offer a diverse selection of both fresh food and pantry essentials, and as a result of this expansion, we are providing more families with access to nourishing food, along with the added convenience of same-day delivery and pickup.”

We are looking forward to continuing to expand this program and making it possible for additional retailers to accept EBT and SNAP payments online through the Instacart Platform.

Instacart began accepting payments made using SNAP EBT commencing in November 2020.

Participants of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) have the option of shopping for items for in-store pickup or delivery using the Instacart app, as well as the websites and apps of participating grocers that are powered by the Instacart Platform.

SNAP participants can also shop for items for in-store pickup or delivery using the Instacart Platform.

Participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can choose from these options at any supermarket they choose to buy at.

According to previous information provided by GOBankingRates, if the state that issued your EBT card is a participant in the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot, then you can shop at any participating Instacart retailer.

SNAP, which stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and was formerly known as food stamps, is a federal program that offers financial assistance to help low-income Americans buy food.

The benefits are administered using the system that processes EBT debit cards.

Customers can add their EBT or SNAP card as a payment method on the Instacart platform by going to “Account Settings” and adding it there.

To pay for fees, bottle deposits in certain states, taxes, delivery tips, and any other items that are not eligible for EBT SNAP, you are required to link a credit or debit card.
