Summer has arrived, but the check for the fourth round of federal stimulus payments has yet to arrive despite all the talk. To help America deal with inflation, particularly with high gas prices, lawmakers have put forth several plans, but none have materialized to date.
Any federal action must navigate a difficult path through a divided Congress. However, depending on where you live, assistance may or may not be forthcoming.
Some states are acting independently to provide payments to their citizens when they are most in need of assistance: right now. These states aren’t waiting for a decision from Washington, D.C.
In March, Democratic legislators proposed the Gas Rebate Act of 2022, which would provide eligible taxpayers and their dependents with $100 per month. The bill is still stuck in committee, early on.
Politico claims that state leaders in the president’s own party don’t see much benefit in giving up a sizable source of income in exchange for small gas price reductions.
Despite the likelihood that states won’t suspend their gas taxes, many are acting to provide relief as costs rise and federal actions remain ineffective for an extended period. Here are the most recent developments regarding the American stimulus.
California
The biggest news regarding the state stimulus comes from California, where Governor Gavin Newsom approved a plan to give millions of Golden State residents payments of up to $1,050 each.
According to AAA, a gallon of gas now costs an average of $6.30 in California. The stimulus funding is intended to reduce the cost of gas. That is by 70 cents the highest rate in the country.
According to Newsweek, lawmakers will use a portion of California’s historic $97 billion budget surplus to pay for the program.
Colorado
According to their filing status, Colorado residents had anticipated receiving payments of $400 or $800; however, because of increased state revenues, they will now receive even more.
Individual filers will now receive $750, and joint filers will receive $1,500, according to a June announcement from the government. In late August, payments will be made.
Georgia
In May, eligible Georgians began receiving $250–$500 rebate payments. Your filing status will determine how much you are paid, though even partial-year residents are eligible for reduced payments.
Tax refunds will be sent to taxpayers who submitted their returns by April 18 by early August.
Hawaii
Hawaii government officials approved payments of $300 to residents with annual incomes up to $100,000 and their dependents, which works out to $1,200 for a family of four.
Hawaiians making $100,000 or more a year can still get up to $100. Late August will see the start of payments.
Idaho
A state rebate program that was approved by lawmakers in February will provide eligible Idaho residents with payments of either $75 or 12 per cent of their 2020 state taxes.
The very next month, in March, payments started, and they will keep coming all year.
Indiana
Legislators in Indiana agreed to a one-time payment of $125 for eligible taxpayers and $250 for joint filers.
The first payments were made in May, and it is anticipated that they will continue all summer.
By September 1st, the state anticipates that nearly all eligible residents will receive payments.
Maine
Around 858,000 people in Maine will receive one of the largest stimulus payments in the nation: $850 per eligible Mainer.
The first batch of checks was processed by the state in June, and the remaining funds will be dispersed throughout the year in rolling amounts.
Minnesota
Minnesota frontline employees who meet the requirements will get special stimulus payments worth up to $750. By July 22, the state will accept applications.

North Jersey
In 2021, up to 500 dollars in one-time payments were made to nearly 1 million Garden State residents.
The governor unveiled a $2 billion property tax relief bill in June of this year, which will result in more than 2 million stimulus rebates.
More than 290,000 homeowners who earn up to $250,000 will receive a $1,000 property tax credit, while more than 870,000 homeowners with incomes under $150,000 will receive a $1,500 credit.
For the 900,000 renters making up to $150,000, there is even relief; they will receive $450.
In New Mexico
Up to $1,500 in rebates and direct assistance will be given to New Mexico’s 1.1 million eligible residents.
In May, the initial round of payments started. The rest will be distributed in July and August, with the second round of checks having been distributed in June.
