Congressman Matt Gaetz, a Republican, believes that immigrants in the United States are to blame for the country’s current food shortage because they are destroying monarch butterfly habitats.
Illegal immigrants make our nation poorer, dirtier, and less safe; therefore, they do not have a place in our nation. They have made a farce out of our legal system.
Illegal immigrants have also been responsible for the destruction of important monarch butterfly habitats around the world.
According to a video clip that has received widespread distribution since the 23rd of July, he stated, “I bet you didn’t know that.”
“And before you say that monarch butterflies are not that significant, we need the monarch butterfly to pollinate our fields for the foods that we eat here in our country,” he added.
“The foods that we eat here in our country are dependent on the pollination services provided by the monarch butterfly.”
Internet users were quick to point out to him that, in point of fact, a Texas butterfly sanctuary located on the border of the United States and Mexico was forced to close earlier this year as a result of threats made by members of the far-right.
They also brought to his attention the fact that monarch butterflies are “literally migrants” and provided him with links to a page on the website of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, which states that “the annual migration of North America’s monarch butterfly is a unique and amazing phenomenon.”
There is only one butterfly known to make migration in both directions, and that butterfly is the monarch.
It says that monarch butterflies are unable to make it through the winter in northern climates because, “unlike other butterflies, which can overwinter as larvae, pupae, or even as adults in some species,” monarchs are unable to survive the cold.

According to the United States Forest Service, monarch butterflies pick up on environmental cues to determine when it is time to make their annual migration south for the winter.
“Monarch butterflies can travel great distances by utilizing air currents as well as thermals. Some will travel as far as 4,000 miles to get to their wintering grounds.
During his speech, Mr Gaetz stated, “[A] a lot of people call me a dove on foreign policy because I am not trying to start like three wars before lunchtime tomorrow, but I would far rather go to war over the Monarch Butterfly than deciphering which guy in a tracksuit gets to run Crimea oceans away.”
