Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits 2022, is a government program that distributes benefits via an Electronic Benefits Transfer card, or EBT card, to qualified low-income people and families.
Especially with some travel limitations at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, purchasing items may prove to be challenging.
Thankfully, the 2014 Farm Bill required a pilot to be carried out to examine the viability and impacts of allowing retail food establishments to accept SNAP benefits through online transactions, as stated by the Food and Nutrition Service of the Agriculture Department.
However, SNAP benefits cannot be used to cover any expenses, including convenience, service, or delivery fees.
The eight merchants chosen by FNS for the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot’s initial rollout were announced in 2017.
Online Payment for SNAP Benefits
Beginning on April 28, 2020, individuals and families in California will be able to shop for food online using their EBT cards.
EBT cards for Californians can be used at Walmart and Amazon for home delivery, according to the state’s Department of Social Services.
Online SNAP benefit payments are also accepted by Instacart and the shops that work with them.
You can also order groceries online and pick them up at participating Vons, Safeway, and Albertsons stores.
The list of retailers accepting SNAP benefits online payment now includes Super King Market, Superior Grocers, and Whole Foods.
As of April 2020, a pilot program enabling SNAP beneficiaries to use EBT cards to buy groceries online will be launched by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
According to a Smarter Florida article, Florida EBT Cardholders can shop online at Aldi, Amazon, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Publix, and Walmart using their SNAP benefits.
In Florida, Earth Fare, Freshfields Farm, Whole Foods, and Sprouts Farmers Markets also accept online SNAP benefit payments.
Conversely, Texas has businesses including Albertsons, ALDI, Amazon, and Brookshire’s Food and Pharmacy that accept payments for SNAP benefits online.
Sam’s Club, Sprouts Farmers Market, Walmart, Whole Foods, H-E-B, and Joe V’s Smart Shop are among nearby retailers.
SNAP Payments in 2022
Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, recently stated that the Texas Health Human Services Commission will be providing more than $301.8 million in SNAP food assistance for July.
According to the governor’s news release, the allotments are expected to benefit about 1.4 million Texas households.
The extra funds were allocated in July on top of the more than $7.2 billion in benefits already provided to Texans since April 2020.

According to Houston Case Managers, further benefits may be provided to Washington, D.C. residents in July 2022.
On July 11, July 28, and August 1st, Oregon will distribute the SNAP benefits. Ohio residents’ EBT cards will be updated with SNAP benefit payments.
When the emergency allotments will be transferred into CalFresh recipients’ accounts is yet unknown in California.
Beginning in July, Colorado citizens’ EBT cards will be loaded with emergency SNAP payments.
