States Are Substituting Free Money for Federal Stimulus Checks; Will This Help With Inflation?

State Discounts

Since last year, many governments have experienced historic surpluses due to rising inflationary costs and high pandemic spending.

According to the Tax Policy Center, overall state tax receipts climbed by more than 17% in the fourth quarter of 2021 over the same period the previous year.

According to Lucy Dadayan, senior research associate at the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, “Giving direct relief, direct payments is considerably more useful than doing income tax cards, or gas tax holidays.”

North Mexico

To help with the growing cost of groceries and petrol, the state of New Mexico is providing financial assistance in the form of a $750 stimulus. The state passed two laws establishing rebate and relief payments.

An eligible person will receive two to three $250 instalments, depending on their income. The payments for families will be $500.

Minnesota
