At a Protest Over the Roe Decision, Alexandria Ocasio-cortez Shares a Moving Story

During a Friday protest against the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) gave a moving anecdote about her thoughts regarding abortion.

Ocasio-Cortez, who appeared in Washington Square Park in New York City, urged abortion rights demonstrators to be “relentless” in their efforts to bring back the practice of legal abortion in the country.

The representative decided to share her tale about a time she could have required an abortion after thanking ladies for sharing their abortion-related testimonies during the protest.

Ocasio-Cortez, who formerly worked at a coffee shop in New York City, said that there was a free family health clinic close to her place of employment and that she helped friends by bringing them there when they needed care, including sexual assault survivors.

Later, she recalled the moment when she was 22 or 23 years old and contemplated getting an abortion.

I was totally alone when I was raped while I was living here in New York City. said Ocasio-Cortez.

In fact, I was so isolated that I had to test for pregnancy in a Midtown Manhattan public restroom. As I waited to learn the outcome, all I could think was, “Thank God I have at least a choice.”
