How Jason Kelce Helped in the Selection of His Eventual Replacement

Some players would be angered or wounded if their NFL team just drafted their ultimate replacement. Jason Kelce is not one of them.

Kelce revealed on Bleacher Report’s NFL Draft Show, “I knew we were taking him.” “In the draft, this is my favorite player.”

The Eagles selected Nebraska center, Cam Jurgens with their second-round choice, No. 51 overall, on Friday evening. Kelce returns for the 2022 season with a $14 million contract, although he’s 34 years old and his playing days are plainly behind him.

On Thursday night, the Eagles selected his replacement. Kelce also assisted in his selection.

“The Eagles have been utilizing me to evaluate some of the centers coming out,” Kelce said, “and of all the guys I’ve looked at over the past two-three years, this guy is it.”

“You see him out in space, he runs, he’s a natural athlete,” says the narrator. You can see how fluid it is… He has the best chance to be a difference-maker at the center because he is an athletic freak. I really like this kid. “I truly believe that.”

Jurgens has received tremendous accolades from the four-time All-Pro and possible future Hall of Famer.

Jurgens was informed that Kelce proclaimed him his favorite player in the draft on a conference call with reporters not long after his name was called.

“That’s fantastic,” Jurgens exclaimed. That’s the kind of game I’d like to play. That’s how I want to play the game and represent myself on the field. “I’ve studied a lot of his footage, and it’s amazing to see a person who can move like he can and play as hard as he does with such enthusiasm.”

“Just because you’re on the offensive line doesn’t mean you can’t rush downfield and take out a safety.” I wish I could accomplish things as he does. Being able to fit as best as I can into their system. I’m ecstatic to be allowed to go in.”

Jurgens, 22, and Kelce, 22, have a lot in common, starting with their agility. Jurgens is a converted tight end who possesses the type of mobility that Kelce has made increasingly popular among centers over the last decade. At the combine, Jurgens clocked a 4.92 in the 40-yard dash. Since Kelce’s 4.89 in 2011, that’s the fastest time for a center. And Jurgens accomplished it while weighing 23 pounds more.

Kelce joined the offensive line room with offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. During his pre-draft visit to Philadelphia, Jurgens had the opportunity to meet Kelce, and the two hit it off. Kelce and Jurgens discussed football, the Eagles’ offensive scheme, and cows, among other topics. Kelce recently purchased a herd of cows, and Jurgens grew up on a cattle ranch. Under the moniker “Beef Jury,” he even has a website selling beef jerky and beef jerky clothes.
