Maine citizens will receive payments totaling $850 per person as part of the state-wide relief program from June onwards.
Price increases have wreaked havoc on millions of households around the country, and Maine lawmakers just established a state-funded assistance scheme that would send out one-time payments totaling $850 per person.
Governor Janet Mills signed the bill to help residents cope with “increasing costs as a result of pandemic-driven inflation, ranging from higher energy bills to increased pricing of ordinary products.”
Residents of Maine who already receive some sort of financial aid or Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are eligible for the $850 relief payments if they meet the eligibility conditions.
Who can apply for the $850 Maine stimulus check?
Around 858,000 Maine people are anticipated to be eligible for the $850 assistance payment. To receive the payout, they must submit a Maine individual income tax return for 2021 by October 31, 2022, as a full-time resident.
The claimant must be a filer, not a dependent on someone else’s tax return, and have an adjusted gross income of less than the maximum limit:
– Individual filers are eligible for $100,000.
– $150,000 for the household filers’ head
– $200,000 for married couples who file jointly
Interesting note re: $850 relief checks in #Maine @MaineDAFS spox says couples filing jointly are EACH eligible for a check. During 2021’s relief program ($285), a wage requirement meant a stay-at-home parent/self-employed parent did not qualify. Now, they do. @newscentermaine pic.twitter.com/dd6MwGzNHn

You do not have to pay a particular tax amount to be eligible for the payout, and you can get it even if you owe the state money in unpaid taxes.

People who are generally not required to file a tax return will be forced to do so to receive a payout. If you’re unsure how to file a Maine individual income tax return in 2021, go to Cash Maine for help.
When may we expect the $850 stimulus check?
Maine support funds will be issued in waves, similar to how federal stimulus money was distributed earlier in the outbreak, to avoid overburdening the administrative body.
The first batch of relief cheques will be mailed out in June 2022, albeit the size of that initial wave of payments is unknown. As other tax returns are received, the distribution procedure will continue rolling for the rest of 2022.
