In the face of rising gas prices and other living expenditures, a coalition of anti-poverty organizations is pressing California lawmakers to send a payment similar to a fourth stimulus check.
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago’s proposal would see the state give a one-time payment of $2,000 per kid to households earning $30,000 per year.
According to Cal Matters, the plan is meant to partially compensate for the expiration of the federal Child Tax Credit payments that were expanded last year.
Low and middle-income households received up to $3,000 per child and $3,600 for each child under the age of six due to the expansion.
With the program’s termination in December, advocates highlighted data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities suggesting that 1.7 million California children are at risk of living in poverty.
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Golden State Stimulus checks and expanded unemployment benefits were among the epidemic relief measures that ended last year.
California’s Stimulus Check
The Golden State stimulus program was established to assist California citizens who had been affected by the pandemic and provide further assistance to immigrants who had been left out of prior government stimulus checks.
According to Forbes, the state declared in April that further payouts were on the way, citing that more than 10,000 tax returns were still being processed by the state eligibility.
When the bill was passed, it resulted in a $3.8 billion arrangement that provided new stimulus payments to California citizens and a one-time stimulus check for those who qualified.
Eligible taxpayers in the state will get a one-time payment of $600, with an extra $600 going to qualifying individuals with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers, including immigrants and undocumented employees.

On the other hand, taxpayers with dependents will receive an additional $500. California’s progressive income tax has brought in an extra $10.3 billion in revenue than forecast in January.
Fourth Stimulus Check
The fourth stimulus payment will not come from the federal government like the previous three. It will depend on your state, according to Ramsey Solutions research.
Each state’s qualifying conditions are different. However, there are some factors that all states have in common, such as income levels or poverty levels.
People returning to work in Arizona will receive their fourth stimulus check. The state’s Back to Work Program gives those who get a job after a period of unemployment $2,000 to help them get back on their feet.
However, eligible beneficiaries must work at their new job for at least eight weeks to get the benefit.
California is another state that has issued large amounts of stimulus cheques that resemble those issued by the federal government.
As part of the Golden State Stimulus II, Californians earning $75,000 or less received a one-time check of $600 or $1,200.
