New Yorkers on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will get additional money for April.
Governor Kathy Hochul stated on Thursday that all SNAP participants in New York will receive the maximum amount of food assistance for April. In April, those who have already received their full allotment will receive a $95 bonus.
New York got around $232 million in federal assistance to disperse the additional benefit.
“No New Yorker should ever have to confront the heartbreaking prospect of food insecurity,” Governor Hochul said. “We can help struggling households make ends meet and keep food on the table as we continue our economic recovery from the COVID-19 catastrophe by offering the highest food aid to those in need.”
“These supplementary benefits have been critical in assisting New Yorkers in avoiding food insecurity that has been compounded by the global pandemic. In addition to supporting low-income families, this assistance is delivering a much-needed boost to local shops and bolstering our state’s overall economy, “Commissioner Daniel W. Tietz of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance stated in a statement.
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) stated, “There should never be a time when a New Yorker has to be concerned about where their next meal will come from. That is why, during the pandemic, I campaigned for a historic boost to SNAP in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan. We went above and above to secure this additional federal cash to assist struggling families in keeping food on the table. SNAP is a lifeline for so many New Yorkers, and I will continue to fight for federal funding to guarantee that no New Yorker goes hungry or falls behind.”
Outside of New York City, SNAP beneficiaries should see the additional benefit amount posted by April 22. Benefits will be released by April 29 for those who live in the New York City area.
In April 2020, the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance began issuing the extra benefits.

According to the governor’s office, SNAP payments contribute over $700 million to the state’s economy.
