Who Will Get a Check for Inflation Stimulus? States Offer Financial Help

Consumers in the United States feel the pinch as prices for everything from gasoline to eggs continue to rise. Some states are proposing to send out inflation stimulus cheques to alleviate the agony of rising costs.

Many of the proposed contributions will only make a minor dent in the rising gas and grocery store prices you’re paying. Officials at the state and federal levels do not want to hand away too much money, which would increase inflation even further.

Nine states are considering enacting stimulus payments, and five have already authorized some form of assistance.

Inflation-stimulus checks have been approved in which states?

The following are the five states that have already taken steps to provide inflation relief to suffering consumers:

Georgia

In March, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp approved legislation that would return the state’s tax surplus to the Georgia people. Residents of Georgia will receive a one-time tax credit of up to $500, depending on their 2020 and 2021 tax returns. Single filers will earn $250, heads of households will receive $375, and married filers will receive $500.

Idaho

This month, Idaho residents will begin receiving tax rebates equal to either 12 percent of their 2020 state taxes or $75, whichever is greater. The one-time refund is available to full-time residents who submitted income tax returns in 2020 or 2021. The payments are part of a $350 million tax relief bill signed into law by Idaho Governor Brad Little in February.

Indiana

Indiana taxpayers are also benefiting from the state’s tax surplus. Governor Eric Holcomb of Indiana enacted legislation in December that will offer residents of Indiana a $125 tax refund when they file their 2021 tax returns.

New Jersey

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey recommends extra help for the state’s inhabitants after issuing certain New Jersey households rebate checks worth up to $500 last year. His ANCHOR Property Tax Relief Program would pay homeowners earning up to $250,000 a $700 rebate and renters earning up to $100,000 a $250 credit.

New Mexico

In March, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico signed legislation that provides a $500 refundable income tax credit for married couples filing jointly with income under $150,000 and $250 for single tax filers with income under $75,000. A refundable tax credit of up to $175 per kid is also included in the law for New Mexico families.

What states are considering making contributions to combat inflation?

Nine other states are currently considering rebates or tax credits to help consumers cope with the effects of inflation. The following states, according to Forbes, are proposing inflation stimulus payments:

  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • Minnesota
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Virginia

When gas prices surge beyond $4, House Democrats demand refund cheques.

To combat inflation, the federal government is also considering additional stimulus payments. When gas prices reach above $4 per gallon, House Democrats recently launched the Gas Rebate Act of 2022, which proposes sending every American a $100 energy rebate every month.
