After removing the 49ers from his Instagram account, Deebo Samuel said he has received death threats and discriminatory comments. Samuel is approaching the final year of his rookie deal after being an absolute beast on the field last year.
Samuel has made it plain that he is dissatisfied since he has not been offered the contract he believes he deserves. In an Instagram story, he wrote, “For all y’all fans in the DMs [sending] death threats and racial things, it doesn’t worry me.”
“No, it doesn’t.” You’re the same people who chanted ‘Hoorah!’ and ‘Go Debo!’ Oh, now you’re going to send death threats and all these racial [threats]?” It doesn’t worry me in the least. I’m chillin’, and I’m cool.
“I’m content.”
Samuel poses a double threat.
Samuel played wide receiver and running back with the 49ers. During the regular season last year, Samuel had 77 catches for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. Samuel also had a rushing total of 365 yards and eight touchdowns.
In a recent interview, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated that re-signing Samuel is critical for the organization. During the NFL’s annual conference in Palm Beach, Florida, he declared that “we need to work it out.”
“[He and defensive end Nick Bosa] are two individuals who have earned a lot, and I hope they stay with the Niners forever — or at least as long as I’m here].” Meanwhile, the 49ers continue to look into quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s alternatives.
Garoppolo, who had been expected to be traded early in free agency, had shoulder surgery in early March and NFL teams are wary of trading for him. According to some sources, the 49ers may be forced to cut Garoppolo, but general manager John Lynch says that is not the case.

When questioned about the potential of Garoppolo being cut, Lynch answered, “I don’t foresee that.” “He’s a far better player than I am. I believe Jimmy is going to play for us or for someone else. He’s far too good of a player to be ignored.”
