On Wednesday afternoon, Grammy-winning musician John Legend revealed on Twitter that he is backing San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin in his recall election on June 7. Legend said he backed Boudin when he originally campaigned for district attorney over two years ago.
Legend urged his 13 million followers to vote no in Boudin’s recall election, which is set to take place in a few months.
Boudin’s recall was called into question as public safety concerns and criticism of his handling of many high-profile cases grew. Despite the efforts of those who want Boudin to resign, Legend is not one of them.
Boudin is one of three local district attorneys for whom Legend expressed support on Twitter. Legend also made public endorsements for a number of district attorneys in races he is following closely across the country, including one in the East Bay and another in Sacramento.

Sacramento County’s Alana Matthews
Alana Matthews, a former prosecutor, is running for District Attorney in Sacramento. She has the support of a celebrity like Legend, who has millions of followers on social media.
According to her website, Matthews is focused on severe offences and preventing gun violence. She is a domestic abuse survivor who claimed she understands what victims go through, adding that getting guns out of the hands of abusers will be her top goal.

Legend is one of the most well-known musicians in the world, with over 14 million Instagram followers and singles including “All of Me” and “Like I’m Gonna Lose You.”
According to his Grammys profile, he has 12 Grammy wins and 33 nominations.
