Gilbert Gottfried, a comedian, died at the age of 67. According to a statement on his verified Twitter profile, he died after a protracted illness.
According to a statement released by his publicist and lifelong friend Glenn Schwartz to the Associated Press, Gottfried died of recurrent ventricular tachycardia caused by myotonic dystrophy type II, a cardiac disease.
When Gottfried was ready to tell an edgy joke, like this one from his Just for Laughs performance in 2015: “Let me tell you, if my father had gotten me a baseball when I was a little child, I would’ve made out with him… and I don’t want to tell you what I would’ve done for a G.I Joe.”
Whether it was natural calamities or terrorist strikes, Gottfried told NPR in 2011 that the word “too soon” was never in his vocabulary.
“There’s an old adage that says tragedy multiplied by time equals comedy. And I’m usually saying things like, “Why to wait?””
Gottfried also worked as an actor, contributing his distinctive voice to Disney’s Aladdin.
