LeBron James is a basketball player from the United States. Mark Jackson is rumoured to be interested in becoming the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Now that Lakers coach Frank Vogel has been fired, the team is looking for a new leader in the locker room, and LeBron James may have a favourite candidate. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, James would be ecstatic if Mark Jackson was given the position.
Raptors coach Nick Nurse and Michigan coach Juwan Howard were identified as prospective contenders for the available post in a Monday article by Shams Charania of The Athletic. Now, the former Warriors coach could be worth keeping an eye on.
Jackson last coached in the NBA in 2014, when he was fired by Golden State and replaced by Steve Kerr, who led the team to an NBA title in his first season. Since then, Jackson has worked for ESPN as an NBA television pundit. His name has been linked to NBA coaching opportunities in the past, most notably with the Knicks.
It’s unclear whether Jackson would even want to return to coaching, never alone to the sidelines for a championship-bound Los Angeles squad. Not to mention, Vogel’s relationship with the Lakers did not end well.
Vogel coached his final game with the Lakers after Sunday night’s regular-season finale, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Vogel was asked if he had been told he was fired during the post-game press conference following the Nuggets’ overtime triumph, and he said, “I haven’t been told s—-.”
