A thunderstorm that is sweeping across Indiana today might have an impact on parts of Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, and Hamilton counties, among others.
After a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service just before 11:30 a.m., the Doppler radar tracked a powerful storm over Plainfield, about 11 miles southwest of Indianapolis. The storm is traveling northeast at a speed of 40 miles per hour.
Wind gusts of up to 50 mph and hail the size of peas are expected in the area. According to the National Weather Service, a wind gust of 49 mph occurred at Indianapolis International Airport.
The National Weather Service had predicted early in the morning that multiple rounds of thunderstorms would hit Central Indiana on Monday morning.

As forecasted by the National Weather Service in a tweet, “Lightning is the most dangerous threat, but small hail, brief gusty gusts, and localized heavy rain are all possible.”
