Jojo Siwa has had a busy year, coming off a record-setting season of “Dancing With the Stars,” performing on a nationwide tour, joining the judging panel of “So You Think You Can Dance,” and, most recently, going viral after cutting off her characteristic blond ponytail.
Despite being nominated for the sixth year in a row, she didn’t put the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards on her calendar.
“A lot of you have been questioning why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight,” the 18-year-old “Dance Moms” veteran and current “DWTS” contestant said in a video posted to social media on Saturday.
“I’m not sure why,” she shrugged, “but I just didn’t get an invite.” Siwa stated in the video description that “I didn’t want you to think I wasn’t interested in being there. I wished I could have attended, but I was not invited:(“
Siwa has attended the Kids’ Choice Awards every year since 2017 – with the exception of 2020 when she won the favorite social music star award despite not being able to attend in person due to COVID-19.
Siwa was defeated by TikToker Dixie D’Amelio in the same category this year.
She inked a talent deal with Nickelodeon in 2017, but in a since-deleted social media post last October, she accused the network of stopping her from playing a song from “The J Team,” her Nickelodeon-produced film in 2021.
In September 2021, she tweeted, “I’m going on tour in January.” “My musical film was recently launched (with six new original songs)… Nickelodeon informed me today that I am not permitted to sing or incorporate any of the film’s music into my show.”
Siwa isn’t the only celebrity who has expressed dissatisfaction with her lack of invitations to award presentations this year. Rachel Zegler, the star of “West Side Story,” made headlines last month when she revealed on social media that she was not invited to the Oscars, despite the fact that her film was nominated for seven prizes, including best picture.
She not only attended but also presented an award and performed at the Grammy Awards a week later, despite the online backlash.
