Avril Lavigne and fellow rocker Mod Sun have announced their engagement! The couple announced their engagement on Instagram on Thursday, sharing a series of stunning images taken near the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
After meeting at a songwriting session, the two began dating and made their red carpet debut at the MTV Video Music Awards in September. They attended the Grammy Awards in Las Vegas together last weekend.
Lavigne, 37, told PEOPLE, which released exclusive photographs of the proposal, “It was the most amazing, romantic proposal I could ever dream for.” “We were on a boat in the Seine River in Paris. There was a violinist, champagne, and roses. It seemed as if time had stopped and there were only the two of us in the room.”
Mod, whose real name is Dylan Smith, proposed a unique heart-shaped ring from XIV Karats in Beverly Hills, set in a royal setting with small hearts. According to Lavigne, the words “Hi Icon” are etched on it. It’s a nod to the first words he said to her. Inside, Mod had “Mod + Lavigne” inscribed.
“He knew from the start that I wanted a heart-shaped diamond because we had matching heart-shaped paved rings on the day we met,” Lavigne explained. “We’ve been wearing them every day since, so having a heart-shaped engagement ring is only natural. I’m completely enamored with it.”
Despite the fact that the proposal was unexpected, Lavigne said she knew Mod was the one the moment they met. They collaborated on “Cannonball,” the first single off Avril Lavigne’s new album, Love Sux. The “Sk8er Boi” singer expressed his desire to continue their artistic relationship while starting a family together.
“I’m looking forward to having a good time, creating, collaborating, touring, and maturing together,” Lavigne told PEOPLE. “It’s nice to have someone to help you enjoy the good times, support you through the bad times, and be there for everything in between.”
In February, Lavigne told PEOPLE that she met Mod just two days before she planned to stop dating. She was getting out of a long-term relationship and contemplating being solo. When she began writing with Mod, everything changed.
“It was exhilarating and enjoyable, so I said, “F— it.” Life is a finite resource. ‘I’m a Libra,’ says the narrator. I adore love “she stated. “I knew you were the one the day we met,” Mod said on Instagram.
“We’ll be together until the end of our days. In my dream, I proposed to my girlfriend in Paris. I took out a ring and instructed you to put it on. As I stared [into] your eyes, I was on one knee. You’re too lovely for me to put into words. I took a deep breath and grasped your hand… ‘Will you marry me?’ I asked, and she said yes. I adore you, Avril.”
Lavigne will be married for the third time. From 2006 to 2009, she was married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, and from 2013 to 2015, she was married to Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger.

Mod was in the spotlight when he was dating Bella Thorne and Tana Mongeau. He later had a committed relationship with Thorne and then a monogamous relationship with Mongeau.
