Colin Cowherd Believes He Knows Why Baker Mayfield Isn’t Wanted

Even though Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is plainly no longer in the Browns’ plans, his status remains unknown. While this may have surprised some, it hasn’t surprised Colin Cowherd.

Cowherd addressed a claim that league executives are “surprised” that Mayfield hasn’t found a new team yet on Wednesday’s episode of The Herd. Cowherd seems to recognize the issue right away: Mayfield’s personality.

The lack of interest in Mayfield, according to the Fox Sports analyst, is due to Mayfield’s focus on his own brand. Teams are wary of him because of his “commercials, enormous personality, and magazine covers,” he said.

Teams are hesitant to pull Mayfield into the fold, despite his potential, because they don’t believe they can persuade him to buy into their culture, according to Cowherd. However, in 2021, Mayfield regressed and was hurt for the first time in his career. They leaped at the chance to upgrade at quarterback by trading for Deshaun Watson when the opportunity arose.
