Sean Penn, an actor, spoke with Fox News and MSNBC on Tuesday night about the situation in Ukraine and how to help the war-torn country.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February, Penn was in Ukraine filming a documentary for Vice on the country, its President Volodymyr Zelensky, and the mounting tensions on the border with Russia.
Penn was forced to flee the nation as the situation worsened. He has subsequently returned to Ukraine, as well as spent time in neighboring Poland for the documentary and humanitarian work through the CORE aid organization, which he co-founded.
Penn made an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program Hannity tonight. Hannity began by recounting how the two originally met, despite the fact that they hold opposite political viewpoints.
“I was the one who called you first,” Hannity replied. “Do you recall what you said to be the first time?”
Penn said, “I said ‘I don’t trust you.'” “However, we must move on with our lives… We all talk about how divisive and divided things are in this town. You realize what we’ve all been missing when you go into a country with amazing togetherness.
I don’t think I have time to indulge my lack of trust, which has turned into a little issue. These individuals are battling for the hopes and dreams of all Americans.”
Penn then goes into depth about the documentary he was working on at the time, as well as what he saw in Ukraine. He also lauded President Zelensky, a former actor, and comedian who had previously played a president on television before being elected.
Penn observed, “In him, I saw something I’d never seen before.” “It’s obvious to me that the Ukrainians are going to win this.” “At what cost?” says the narrator.
They didn’t always agree on everything, especially the Reagan and Trump ideologies, which Hannity brought up several times, but they kept it respectful. Hannity questioned Penn at the end of the conversation if he trusted him more after speaking with him live on TV.
Penn tried to avoid answering the question, but Hannity was adamant. “After a major vehicle accident, there is a lot of physical therapy.” Penn stated, “You don’t get it done in a day.”
Penn recently praised President Zelensky on MSNBC’s The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell, praising him for keeping things together despite the raging war on Ukrainian land.
Penn appeared on CNN shortly before the Academy Awards in March, telling news presenter Jim Acosta that if President Zelenskyy was not invited to speak, he would smelt his Oscars.
“If that turns out to be the case, I would encourage everyone involved to protest and skip the Academy Awards,” Penn said. “While it may be their moment to shine, it is so much more important for them to protest and boycott the Academy Awards,” Penn said.
“If it comes down to it, I’ll smelt mine in public when I get back.” I hope that isn’t the case.”
