DeVante Parker, a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was traded to the New England Patriots on Saturday in exchange for a mid-round choice.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots will obtain Parker and a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, while the Dolphins would receive a third-round pick in the next year’s draught.
After the Miami Dolphins acquired Tyreek Hill in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs and former Dallas Cowboys receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. in free agency, Parker, 29, was thought to be on the trading block. Parker’s $8.74 million and $9 million salary-cap hit in the following two seasons makes him difficult to keep buried on the depth chart, especially with 2021 top 10 picks Jaylen Waddle already on the roster.
Parker joins a wide receiving group that includes Jakobi Meyers, Nelson Agholor, and N’Keal Harry in New England.
Parker was a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but he failed to find consistent output until he had a breakout year in 2019, when he rushed for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns. But his numbers dropped again, as he concluded the 2021 season with 515 yards and two touchdowns despite missing seven games due to a hamstring ailment.
