As the hunt for missing Texas mother of four Suzanne Simpson continues, an attorney for her husband, Brad Simpson, has described the claims against him as “ludicrous.”
Suzanne Simpson, a 51-year-old luxury real estate agent, has been missing for over two weeks. She went missing on October 6 after allegedly battling with her husband of 22 years in Olmos Park in the San Antonio region.
Brad Simpson’s court-appointed attorney, Steven Gilmore, told the San Antonio Express-News that the client is being held in administrative segregation and is confined to his cell for at least 23 hours every day. Gilmore informed the publication that Brad Simpson intends to plead not guilty. Gilmore described the Simpson case as “theater to incapacitate him – to keep him in custody.” At a prior press conference, Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas stated that there was a “disturbance” between the Simpsons at the Argyle, a San Antonio-area club, on Sunday night, October 6.
According to the arrest document, a neighbor reported seeing Brad and Suzanne physically fighting that night and hearing screaming from a nearby wooded area. The neighbor noticed that “Ms. Simpson was attempting to get away from Mr. Simpson’s grasp as he tried to pull her downwards,” the report read. The neighbor reported seeing Brad Simpson’s black GMC pickup drive away and return an hour or two later. Gilmore told the San Antonio Express-News that the neighbor lacked credibility.
“That doesn’t make any sense,” he replied. “If he was invested enough to leave his house with a flashlight and pursue them into the woods, he’s the type of person who would contact the cops, which he doesn’t. He not only does not call the police, but he does not even speak with them. Brad Simpson, 53, is still in the Bexar County Jail on a $2 million bond for assault inflicting bodily injury, domestic violence, and unlawful restraint in connection with an incident with his wife on October 6.
“It’s ludicrous that he’s being held on the $2 million bond for misdemeanor cases that the state knows it can’t and isn’t even going to try to prove,” Gilmore told the newspaper. “They won’t even file these lawsuits. They don’t want to bring up these cases because doing so would result in exercising all of his rights. We cannot advocate for a fast trial while these cases remain unfiled.” Ted Williams, an attorney and former homicide detective, told Fox News Digital, “$2 million for felonies is something that is rarely if ever, done. The only reason they would do it is to keep him detained. At the same time, they figure out what’s going on and perform their recovery operation.” Police have attempted to interrogate Brad. Still, he has been “uncooperative,” Villegas stated. “Brad’s refusal to cooperate is unacceptable,” Suzanne’s brother-in-law, Barton Simpson, posted on Facebook.
