The club announced that Newman would miss the rest of the game due to a neck injury. Newman was hurt in the third quarter when Pittsburgh’s Beanie Bishop Jr. intercepted Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and returned 41 yards.

During his comeback, Newman was blocked and fell awkwardly. When he stayed down, Jets teammates circled him out of bounds for a few seconds. According to the “Sunday Night Football” program, Newman was aware and moved his limbs while tied to a spine board before being hauled off to a Pittsburgh hospital. After the game, Jeff Ulbrich, the Jets interim head coach, said that Newman was well and was leaving the hospital. “Thank the Lord, his tests returned negative; he’s returning with the squad. “That was a huge relief,” Ulbrich told NBC Sports.
