Before he was reported missing on August 22, Elin Etienne, 71, was getting treatment at North Dade Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He had dementia.
What Happened to Elin Etienne?
On Monday morning, police verified the shocking finding of a decaying body discovered inside a nursing home’s closet in North Miami, according to Maj. Kessler Brooks, a department spokeswoman, said North Miami officers were called to the horrific discovery at the North Dade Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located at 1255 NE 135th Street, at around 10:30 a.m.
As of Monday night, Brooks said that the police had blocked off the area of the institution where he was located and were still looking into the death. A guy who answered the phone at the assisted living facility refused to comment.
According to Brooks, authorities are looking into whether the decomposing bones they discovered belong to Elin Etienne, 71, who was reported missing from the institution on August 22.
Ruth Keisha Etienne, his granddaughter, informed the Miami Herald that the mysterious man is her grandpa. “That’s right,” Ruth said. “He found himself in a closet.” Ruth Etienne said that Elin Etienne had an aneurysm and was hospitalized at the house early this month.
According to Brooks, authorities have not concluded that the guy who died is Elin Etienne until they have received confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s office. Brooks told the Herald, “We haven’t made that connection yet.” On August 23, North Miami police published a poster of Elin Etienne and requested assistance from the public in locating him.
