A body matching the description of a missing 24-year-old woman was found Thursday evening, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes. MPD had requested the public’s assistance in locating Brooke Stratton, who was last seen three days ago. Barnes stated that the body was discovered in a pond near Monroe Street and Lewis Ct.
A community member told police they thought they observed someone wandering in the area who matched Strattan’s description. The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the body. According to a news release, Brooke Strattan was last seen at 7 a.m. Monday near Odana Road and Whitney Way on the city’s west side. She was with a man.
Barnes said that police are currently questioning the man. He is currently in detention on unrelated accusations. Brooke was reported missing on Tuesday. Officers went to various homes where she had ties.MPD investigators and police officers were looking for Brooke near Odana Hills Park on Thursday afternoon. Chief Barnes is asking the public if anyone in the Dudgeon-Monroe neighborhood has security footage from Monday between 7-8:30 a.m. to help determine how the woman arrived near the pond. “If you reside in this location. Suppose you own a Ring camera or have a camera in your business. You believe you may have a vantage position. Kindly let us know. Call us so we can come by and look at it,” Barnes explained.
According to Madison police spokesman Stephanie Fryer, the number of missing people has increased in 2024. So far this year, 154 persons have been reported missing. That’s a 22% increase from the same period last year.
