A “significant development” is expected to be published in one of Arkansas’ most renowned and keenly watched cold cases: Morgan Nick’s disappearance. The Alma Police Department will conduct a news conference on October 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. to discuss a significant advance in the investigation.
Mother of Missing Morgan Nick is still fighting to bring Morgan home after 26 years. Nick was just six years old when she was stolen on the evening of June 9, 1995, while playing with friends and chasing fireflies. She was seized just yards away from her mother, Colleen, at Alma’s ballpark. Despite the extensive investigation that proceeded and the persistence of law enforcement in the years that followed, Morgan is still missing. “Until someone tells me Morgan did not survive, I will fight daily for her to come home,” Colleen Nick told KATV in 2021. “There’s a tremendous amount of truth, hope, and encouragement in the fact that when Morgan was taken, the state of Arkansas stood up.”
Colleen Nick founded the Morgan Nick Foundation a year after Morgan went missing, encouraging others in similar situations to connect with and help other parents and families dealing with missing children. “It might be hard to spot a child who’s missing, but it’s not hard for any of us to spot a child in trouble, and what we do with that could change the course of the child’s life,” she told me.
“If there’s something you have just always wanted to tell or something that’s bothered you, this is the time to do it.” If Nick had the opportunity to speak with Morgan, or if Morgan came across this report, she would want her to know the following:
“Morgan, it’s okay if you forgot about us or are unsure who you are, but we have never forgotten about you,” she said. “We’re still battling for you. We have an army of people fighting for you, and we are coming after you.” Throughout the years, different law enforcement agencies have collaborated to pursue innumerable leads in Morgan’s abduction. The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office was summoned to investigate one site that could be linked to the kidnapping, as well as examine things and materials being moved. Ultimately, no arrests were made, and no evidence relevant to the case was discovered.
The FBI identified a person of interest in 2021. Billy Jack Lincks, a veteran from Arkansas, died while incarcerated in 2000. However, evidence from his previous crimes, including an attempted abduction of an 11-year-old roughly 8 miles distant from Morgan’s disappearance, prompted officials to ask community people to come forward and share information on Linck’s life. The briefing for this “significant development” in the investigation will occur at the Alma Police Department’s courtroom.
