There’s a lot of enthusiasm in South Florida as October draws near because companies and the community are counting down the days until the Miami Carnival.
Miami Carnival is a colourful celebration of Caribbean culture that kicks up with a week full of events leading up to the band parade.
“I always try to stand in front of our parade before we push off,” Ajene Green said. “ To see thousands of people revelling, dancing, moving towards you. I get chills, shivers every time I see it.”
Gen-X Mas Carnival Band is represented by Ajene Green and Matthew Waddell. The band was founded 25 years ago, and although it underwent an ownership change and a redesign in 2019, it still features amazing costumes and music, which has made it a major player in South Florida’s carnival industry.
“You are in the streets literally from morning until evening,” Waddell said. “You are fed, you are given beverages and music. I think communion and community really is what carnival is celebrating.”
The Miami-based band is prepared to deliver a genuine experience that will speak to everyone in the community, with its roots firmly rooted in their Caribbean history.
Miami Carnival not only has a vibrant appeal, but it also significantly boosts South Florida’s economy because so many people stay in hotels and eat at restaurants.
“There are tens of thousands of people who travel not only to participate in carnival parades but more so to participate in all the events happening and the energy around the carnival,” Green said. “I think it is important for local business owners to understand that something is happening in and around the city during this period and there is an opportunity to harness that.”
