After apparently failing to stop for police, starting a brief pursuit, and then attempting to run in Miami Gardens, two people—among them a 16-year-old—were taken into custody on Thursday.
The robbery intervention detail of Miami-Dade police attempted to stop a Mercedes Benz automobile near 165th Street and NW 38th Place at approximately 11:16 p.m., according to the police.
Miami-Dade police reported that a traffic violation near NW 37 Avenue and NW 145-150 Street was the cause of the initial stop.
The Mercedes is said to have run away and collided with another car near 38 Avenue NW 161 Street.
Antonio Vance, the Mercedes’ driver, 21, fled the scene of the crash but was apprehended close by, according to the police. The 16-year-old was taken into custody by additional officers.
According to authorities, gunfire was heard coming from the location of the crash.
“[Police] would learn the remaining subjects (detectives still working on how many) were involved in a confrontation with the civilian vehicle driver, as they approached him armed with firearms. The civilian driver produced a firearm and shot towards the subjects, who then ran away,” authorities said.
According to authorities, one of the subjects, a man, was wounded in the arm and was sent to Aventura Hospital in stable condition.
