The destruction is visible at Keaton Beach in Taylor County, where Hurricane Helene landed as a Category 4.

Some homes still stand, while all that’s left of others are mounds of wood. On camera, there are flooded roadways, broken windows, torn-off roofs, and debris along the coast.

On Florida’s Gulf Coast, the hurricane made landfall close to the mouth of the Aucilla River. That place was only roughly 20 miles (32 kilometres) northwest of where Idalia struck almost exactly one year prior, causing extensive devastation.

According to NBC News, Helene is to blame for at least one fatality in Florida and 21 more in three other states.
