According to Shelby County court documents in Tennessee, Miriam Castillo, 44, is accused of misdemeanour domestic assault and felony aggravated child abuse. Witnesses claim that on Tuesday afternoon, her son was heard screaming, “She is trying to kill me,” while running.

An affidavit of complaint examined by Law&Crime states that a witness informed authorities that the boy had been “assaulted by his mother.” The victim claimed that his mother “was driving recklessly after she picked him up from school,” albeit the boy’s age was not stated in the document.

According to the complaint, Castillo’s son informed police that his mother “attempted to put him out of the moving vehicle while on the way to pick up his sister.” When the youngster called his father at that time, the father gave him the advice to “take [Castillo’s] keys once the vehicle was stopped.”

But Castillo “proceeded to bite[e] him on his right hand and left elbow” when he attempted to do so. The affidavit claimed that she then “took an unknown screwdriver and stabbed him in the left leg, breaking the skin.” The youngster then exited the vehicle and began to run until he was seen by a witness, at which point the police were contacted.

The affidavit stated that the youngster received treatment for minor injuries.

When Castillo was found by the officers, they “smelt a strong odour of alcohol coming from her person.” Then, according to reports, she acknowledged that she had been drinking, but she was unsure of how many drinks she had.

“Officers were unable to get a statement from suspect Miriam Castillo about the incident due to her being under the influence,” the affidavit noted.

According to authorities, the victim and his sister were both returned to their father’s care following the event.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reports that Castillo is being held in custody on a $40,000 bond. Friday is her scheduled court date.
