After reportedly running his truck over his son’s mother to death and wounding another man, a 32-year-old man is being held.
Deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue workers went to a probable hit-and-run on Saturday night, September 21, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. After discovering two victims, Brenda Hernandez Amaya and Omar Munguia-Henrique, the authorities concluded that the victims had been struck by a car and dragged.
Hernandez Amaya was declared dead at the hospital after first responders had taken the victims there. Munguia-Henrique had wounds that weren’t life-threatening.
After conducting additional research, sheriff’s office detectives discovered Hernandez Amaya and Edwin Amaya, 32, had a fight about their joint child. At one time, according to deputies, Amaya went to his Ford F-250, “backed up the vehicle, and then intentionally put it into drive and struck Hernandez Amaya with the front of his truck.” According to reports, Munguia-Henrique, the other fatality, tried to hang on to the car but fell to the ground when he smashed into parked cars. After the event, Amaya took off running.
Hernandez Amaya, according to WPLG-TV, had two children with Munguia-Henrique and one son with Amaya. It is said that the incident was seen by the youngsters. Munguia-Henrique claimed Amaya was intoxicated and threatened to shoot everyone, according to WPLG.
Shortly after the hit-and-run, deputies located Amaya on South Dixie Highway and hauled him into custody. On one count of premeditated murder, he is still being held at the Broward County Jail.
