Police in the Toronto region say a woman who ran over the owner of an SUV while stealing it has turned herself in.
Peel Regional Police made available a home surveillance video from the September 6th’s afternoon. A Canadian woman went to the victim’s house in Mississauga, a city west of Toronto, and rang the doorbell. This concerns a 2022 Porsche Cayenne that the owner was selling on Auto Trader.
“Hello, I’m here for the Porsche,” the suspect—whom the police have identified as 18-year-old Sarah Badshaw—said on camera.
A test drive was offered by the owner. When asked whether she might “take a look” at the car, she replied that she was waiting for her father.
The video cut to the SUV’s vantage point. The victim circled around the car, his face indistinct. The SUV shifted position momentarily. Before crossing the back, the victim seemed to check the driver-side doors. Suddenly, the engine screamed, and the driver of the SUV ran him over by putting the vehicle in reverse. Still, the man was able to get to his feet.
The woman ran away, according to the police.
To help them locate the woman, police released a video on Wednesday. They say she turned herself in the following day.
“She was held in custody pending a bail hearing on September 20, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton,” they wrote.
Badshaw faces charges for driving without a licence, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stay after a collision that results in bodily harm, and reckless operation that causes physical harm.
Additionally, according to the officers, she has been wanted by other police agencies in the Greater Toronto Area in connection with previous investigations and has been charged with fraud in the past in Peel.
Authorities anticipate more charges and arrests.
