Three individuals, including a youngster, are still in the hospital following a horrific head-on collision Friday night in Deerfield Beach. Authorities said the incident happened around 9 p.m. near SW 10th Street and Waterways Boulevard.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, a 17-year-old kid from Plantation lost control of his Toyota Corolla while driving eastbound on Southwest 10th Street, over the curbed median, and collided head-on with a Ford Fusion in the westbound lanes. The Ford driver, Isaac Knowles, is in critical condition. The Toyota’s driver and another passenger were both hospitalized. First responders had to use the Jaws of Life to extract the victims from the wreckage safely. One of the people involved needed to have their leg amputated, but authorities did not specify who.
The crash is still under investigation. According to the Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Department, the three people involved were treated on the scene before being transported to Broward Health North. “The patients’ conditions range from serious to severe,” fire rescue officials stated. SW 10th Street was closed while authorities investigated and cleaned up. One driver stated that he was stuck in traffic for two hours.
