The Birmingham Police Department has classified its investigation into the deaths of two men found shot to death in a senior living apartment last Thursday as murder-suicide, according to a BPD statement. The two males found dead were identified as Roosevelt Walker, 66, and Larry Collins, 68.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, Jefferson County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Dye advised BPD homicide detectives that Walker’s death was a homicide and Collins’ death was a suicide. According to authorities, the case will be dismissed because the suspect died.
Just before 11 a.m. on September 5, officers received a call reporting two persons down at Freedom Manor Apartments, a senior care facility in the 1600 block of 5th Avenue North. Officers came and discovered two males on the floor of an apartment with gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews found both guys unresponsive and confirmed them deceased at the scene. According to the statement, a friend with a key to the flat called 911 after stopping by on Thursday morning and discovering the bodies.
