Missing 15-year-old discovered shot to death in South Charlotte

Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Missing Persons Unit are collaborating on a homicide investigation in southwest Charlotte.

Missing 15-year-old found shot to death in south Charlotte

According to officials, Anthony Smith, 15, was reported missing by his family on September 4. The CMPD’s Missing Persons Unit launched a search for Smith. On September 10, the team responded to the 600 block of Silverleaf Road as part of the investigation, where they discovered human remains. The Homicide Unit was dispatched to investigate as the remains were taken to the NC Medical Examiner’s Office.

The following day, September 11, the remains were positively identified as Anthony Smith’s. Smith was found to have died from a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled homicide. The investigation is active and ongoing.
