Stephanie Alonso died on Friday, days after being struck by a motorist outside a pharmacy in Miami, her father reported. Stephanie and her mother were headed into the front entrance of Navarro Pharmacy, located on Southwest 32nd Avenue and 22nd Street in Miami, before 4 p.m. on Monday.
A red Nissan SUV driven by an older woman collided with the girl and sideswiped her mother. “Instead of tapping the brakes, the 92-year-old accelerates, and we can see (via surveillance footage) that the vehicle accelerates and approaches them. It sideswipes the mother and hits the girl,” said Mike Vega, Miami Police’s public relations officer. “She was not pinned under the car; she was right beside the vehicle.”
Stephanie was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Stephanie would have turned eight on September 21. Except for her age, Miami Police have divulged nothing about the driver’s name. “We issued a ticket for careless driving, but we have not issued it to her yet because we have to wait on the outcome of the case,” Vega told reporters.
