On Thursday, ten people were confirmed dead as a result of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on Wednesday, and hundreds more were reported stranded or confined, according to Taiwanese authorities.

The island of Taiwan has been impacted by over a hundred aftershocks, one of which had a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 and occurred in close proximity to Hualien, as reported by the US Geological Survey.

Interior Minister Lin Yu-chang announced via social media that search and rescue personnel had located a portion of those stranded at the Silks Palace Hotel early Thursday morning.

Among those located was an individual who appeared to have suffered fractured legs.

Others were captured by aerial cameras aboard a transport traversing Taiwan Highway 8, which passes through the region.

“Now, we are also asking the Meteorological Agency to make the latest weather forecast to see if the weather allows the aircrew to carry relevant personnel and supplies into the Tianxiang area,” according to Lin. “As long as the weather allows, we will take every minute to rescue the people trapped and in need of rescue.”
