Celebrating Transgender Visibility

The goal of recognizing the transgender and nonbinary community and bringing attention to their problems and experiences has made March 31 the Transgender Day of Visibility since 2009.

But since the day fell on Easter Sunday this year, some Republicans accused the government of ignoring the religious holiday.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) expressed his vehement disagreement, charging that by observing Transgender Day of Visibility on the same day, the White House was violating the fundamental principles of Easter. President Biden and his administration didn’t waver in their support of the transgender community in the face of criticism.
