NYC Mayor Eric Adams Faces 1993 Sexual Assault Allegation

In a lawsuit filed on Monday in Manhattan, New York City Mayor Eric Adams faced allegations of sexually assaulting a woman in 1993.

The lawsuit marks the first public disclosure of a sexual assault claim lodged against the mayor back in November.

Allegations of Sexual Assault

Eric Adams, a Democrat, vehemently denied the accusations, stating he has no recollection of ever meeting the woman in question. “A sexual assault absolutely did not happen,” Mayor Adams told reporters last autumn.

The lawsuit details an incident where the woman, seeking advancement in the city’s Transit Police Department, sought assistance from Adams, then a police officer and a prominent figure in the Guardians Association, advocating for Black law enforcement members.

Allegedly, Adams offered to drive her home from work, but instead took her to a vacant lot, where he demanded a sexual favor in exchange for his assistance, according to the lawsuit.

When the woman refused, Adams purportedly exposed himself and masturbated before abruptly leaving her at a Manhattan subway station.

Describing Adams as a “predator,” the lawsuit accuses him of exploiting the woman’s vulnerability for personal gain.

A spokesperson for Adams, citing the city’s corporation counsel, dismissed the allegations as “ludicrous,” asserting the mayor’s innocence and anticipating exoneration in court.

The case was filed under the Adult Survivors Act, a New York law extending the statute of limitations for sexual assault lawsuits. Although the woman initially lodged her claim in November, she provided no specific details about the alleged assault at the time.

The woman refrained from filing a formal report initially but disclosed the incident to several individuals over the years, including current and former NYPD officials, friends, and her daughters.
