Former Vice President Mike Pence announced on Friday that he won’t endorse his former boss, Donald Trump, in the upcoming US presidential election in November.
Pence, who served as Trump’s vice president for four years, made this statement during an interview with Fox News, stating, “It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year.”
Trump’s Path to General Election
The decision comes at a critical juncture in American politics, as Trump recently secured enough delegates to formally clinch the Republican nomination. This sets the stage for a highly anticipated general election rematch between Trump and Democratic President Joe Biden on November 5th.
The dynamic between Pence and Trump has been intricate, characterized by a mixture of steadfast loyalty and instances where they have openly disagreed in public.
One significant rift occurred over Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol, incited by his supporters. Pence, in his capacity as vice president and president of the US Senate, was overseeing the certification of Biden’s victory during the riot.

Pence’s GOP Voter Warning
Trump grew furious with Pence when he adamantly refused to adhere to Trump’s directives to delay or annul the certification process.
Looking back, Pence highlighted the danger he faced and pleaded with Republican primary voters to consider carefully before selecting their nominee for the White House. Certain insurrectionists even cried out, Hang Mike Pence, amid the chaos of the riot.
Ultimately, Pence’s own bid for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election faltered, leading to its end in October, prior to any primary votes being cast.
Pence’s decision not to endorse Trump underscores the enduring divisions within the Republican Party and hints at the evolving dynamics shaping the political landscape in the lead-up to the upcoming election. As the race intensifies, Pence’s stance adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious campaign season.
