In Tacoma, Washington, where one in four households struggles to make ends meet, the launch of the Growing Resilience in Tacoma (GRIT) project brings hope for economic stability.
Developed through a collaboration between the City of Tacoma and the United Way of Pierce County (UWPC), GRIT aims to provide vital financial assistance to eligible low-income households in the area.
GRIT: Empowering Families with Financial Stability and Support
GRIT offers a lifeline to families facing financial insecurity, housing instability, and mental health challenges. Through the initiative, eligible households will receive $500 per month for one year, providing much-needed relief and support.
Scheduled to commence in April and extend until June 2025, the Tacoma GRIT project marks a significant effort to address the pressing needs of Tacoma’s vulnerable communities. The application process, which opened on March 1, invites eligible households to apply for participation in the program.
To qualify for the GRIT project, applicants must meet specific criteria outlined by UWPC. Prospective participants must be the single head of a household with dependent children aged up to 17 years old, or up to 21 years old if the children have a disability.
Residence within designated zip codes (8404, 98405, 98408, 98409, 98418, 98444, or 98445) is also a requirement, along with meeting UWPC’s Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained while Employed criteria.
