Justice for Two? Pregnant Florida Woman Seeks Jail Break for Baby Bump

Daisy Link, a 28-year-old inmate in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is set to have a hearing on January 24, where she will request a transfer to house arrest.

Daisy Link, who is almost four months pregnant, faces a second-degree murder charge stemming from a domestic violence incident that occurred in June 2022.

Pregnancy in Custody

Her attorney, Marlene Montaner, is appealing for her pretrial release, citing the “extraordinary circumstances” of the pregnancy and the stress it imposes on Link, who fears for her safety in jail.

Link’s pregnancy was confirmed by the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department after a thorough medical exam. However, the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy remain unclear, as conjugal visits are not allowed in Florida jails.

Montaner highlighted the unique stress of a pregnancy in jail and expressed concern for both Link and her unborn child. The attorney also mentioned threats Link has reportedly received from inmates and corrections staff.

Montaner filed a motion requesting the judge to reconsider a previous order denying Link’s pretrial release and instead allow her to be under home confinement with electronic monitoring.

The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department has launched an investigation into Link’s pregnancy, stating that while there is no evidence of sexual battery, the circumstances are under active review.

The department emphasized that pregnant inmates receive timely and appropriate prenatal care.
