A teacher at Memorial High School in west Houston, identified as Stephen Griffin, has been charged with engaging in an improper relationship with a student, leading to his suspension, according to court records and Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) officials.

The alleged incidents, involving a student who was 18 at the time, spanned from September 2022 to the summer of the same year, with accusations ranging from inappropriate relationships to academic improprieties.

Teacher’s Alleged Misconduct

The 18-year-old student reported that her relationship with Griffin, her science teacher, began in September 2022.

Communication initially occurred through emails and texts, during which Griffin shared personal details about his life, including a divorce and residing in a hotel.

The girl disclosed that the relationship turned sexual when she visited Griffin’s hotel room over Thanksgiving break, eventually becoming a regular meeting place for sexual encounters.

The inappropriate behavior allegedly extended to Griffin’s classroom and continued when he relocated to an apartment.

The student claimed Griffin exhibited anger if she was not in the mood for sexual activities. Additionally, she reported that he provided her with test answers and consistently awarded her perfect scores on classwork.

The illicit relationship persisted until the summer, but Griffin abruptly ended contact on October 4, citing reconciliation efforts with his wife.

Court records revealed disturbing Snapchat messages from Griffin to the student, expressing sentiments such as “I’m suicidal right now” and “Want money?” The timeline of these messages is unspecified in the records.
