In a chilling turn of events, Theobald ‘Theo’ Lengyel, a 54-year-old former rock musician associated with the band Mr. Bungle, was arrested in California on Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder.
The arrest follows the discovery of human remains during the search for his missing 61-year-old girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani, who was last seen alive on December 3.
Investigation Unveils Foul Play
The Capitola Police Department and El Cerrito Police Department initiated an investigation into Kamakaokalani’s disappearance, which eventually revealed indications of foul play, leading to Lengyel’s identification as a suspect, according to a news release from the Capitola Police.
The search for Kamakaokalani led investigators to recover human remains in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. However, the confirmation of the identity of these remains awaits DNA confirmation from the Contra Costa Coroner’s Office.

Rock Musician ‘Mylo Stone’ Emerges as Person of Interest in Missing Partner Case
Lengyel, also known by the alias ‘Mylo Stone,’ had been a person of interest early in the investigation. Kamakaokalani’s red Toyota Highlander SUV was discovered outside Lengyel’s home in El Cerrito. Allegedly uncooperative with the authorities, Lengyel’s lack of cooperation intensified suspicions.
Authorities expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the victim in a news release, acknowledging the tragic homicide and highlighting the collaborative efforts of investigators and law enforcement partners.
The motive behind the alleged killing has not been disclosed by the police, leaving the circumstances surrounding Kamakaokalani’s death shrouded in mystery. Lengyel’s history as a former musician, notably with Mr. Bungle, adds an eerie dimension to the case.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Lengyel played saxophone, keyboards, and clarinet with Mr. Bungle but was asked to leave the group in the 1990s. The decision was reportedly due to the band feeling that Lengyel was not evolving creatively with the rest of the members, leading to tensions that left Lengyel “pissed off.”
As the investigation unfolds, the shocking arrest of a former musician in connection with a heinous crime raises questions about the complexities surrounding individuals and their past, emphasizing the importance of thorough investigations to uncover the truth.
