Canada Unveils Temporary Visa Program for Gaza Residents with Canadian Ties

In a recent announcement, Canada’s Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, revealed a new initiative to assist people in the Gaza Strip who have relatives in Canada.

While the program is set to begin operation on January 9, 2023, it comes with a crucial caveat: the Canadian government cannot guarantee safe passage for individuals out of the besieged Palestinian territory.

Commencement Caveat

The primary objective of the program is to facilitate the reunification of families by allowing eligible individuals in Gaza with Canadian relatives to apply for temporary visas. The focus has been on reuniting not only immediate family members but also extended family connections, including parents, grandparents, siblings, and grandchildren.

Minister Miller states successful applicants will be granted three-year visas, provided they meet the specified eligibility and admissibility criteria. The program aims to offer a lifeline to those facing difficulties in the Gaza Strip, allowing them to reside temporarily in Canada and be with their relatives.
