New Jersey Hospital Attack: Two Nurses and Resident Injured, One Arrested

A New Jersey pediatric intensive care unit turned into a scene of violence on Friday morning when two nurses and a medical resident were stabbed.  The disturbing incident unfolded at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, leading to injuries among the medical staff involved. 

A woman has been arrested in connection with the attack, which authorities attribute to a “domestic dispute” involving visitors to the pediatric intensive care unit.

Violent Confrontation at Newark Beth Israel Hospital

The unsettling episode occurred around 7 a.m. on Friday, involving a confrontation arising from a domestic dispute within the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit.  Two nurses and a medical resident became the victims of a stabbing attack during the altercation. 

Fortunately, the hospital quickly responded, and the injured medical staff is reported to be in stable condition, according to Fritz Fragé, Newark’s public safety director. The alleged assailant, identified as 37-year-old Firdousi Abdul-Hakim, was promptly arrested following the attack. 

Authorities have charged Abdul-Hakim with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for illegal objectives. The incident underscores the challenges faced by healthcare professionals who dedicate themselves to patient care and safety.

The hospital’s immediate response to the incident played a crucial role in preventing further harm.  Newark Beth Israel Hospital reassured the public that no patients or family members were injured during the assault. 

The injured nurses and medical residents are currently in stable condition, marking a relief amidst the shocking events that transpired within the medical facility. As the investigation unfolds, many questions remain about the nature of the domestic dispute and the circumstances leading to the violent attack. 

Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the injured medical staff or provided further details about the alleged dispute that escalated into a violent confrontation.
